We've been together for a few years now,
Photography and I.
We decided I should become a freelancer many rolls of film ago.
Slow at first. Had to prove my worth.
But I grew the portfolio… YOU know?
EVERYONE'S wedding, christening, party, or show!
Right now, as the family grows,
We're finding it difficult.
We've even taken to scrolling LinkedIn and…
.. Ugh! …
.. "Applying for roles."
Over the years, we've worked on projects
And with people that we actually liked!
Organised groups, curated shoots,
And even took some flights.
But the dips are real, as is the "creative block,"
The taxes on the time of your circadian clock.
Never wanted to stop. But didn't want to fall ill.
Economy dips and client's budget quips
Can have you overworked for tips,
Despite receipts for your skills.
Stand. Still…
"Your life IS your business," a wise woman did say.
I pray the passion remains, even if they won't pay,
So I'm not confined to trading all my creative juice for cash.
Better to take time back, price results, charge for that.
What Photography & I started together is fairly seasoned.
The reasons, though, for persisting aren't "old."
They're timeless.
The betrayal of your dreams is a betrayal of the Soul.
The hype-life gets too dark when chasing the limelight,
So our vows we'll renew and stay true to Love,
'Cos THAT activates more buttons (Anahata / Ogun / Oshun) than "Likes."
We may not gain fame, accolades, or financial wealth,
But I shall remain faithful… stubborn…
Re-applying (to) myself.
